Guilty as charged! But I am so passionate about the importance of building relationships in business that I totally subscribe to the MLKT philosophy in business networking. It has worked amazingly for me as a member of 4N and cannot fail to for most other people.
But it sometimes goes all wrong when it comes to online networking. Often people forget the rules and just use social media as an excuse to post blatant ads and spam people. One word to say about that – NO – NO – NO! (Ok so that was three words, but let’s not split hairs…)
The same principles apply to networking online as it does to offline for it to be effective. And massively effective it can be (I’m also passionate about the HUGE potential of social mediafor business by the way.) But only if you treat people online as you would (hopefully) offline.
Start a converation, chat to people, get to know them, help and advise them, ask and answer questions, chew the fat. This is how people will get to like you, then choose to get to know you more, until they trust you, then BOOOOM!! – this is when you’ll start to reap the benefits.
You’ll get oodles of support, people will retweet you, your following will grow, people will go out of their way to help you and talk to their friends about you and recommend you.
We all know the best form of marketing is word of mouth right?
Well this is Word of mouth on steroids! Job done.
