I love the festive season. I really do. A chance to spend time with loved ones – often those that you don’t see that often during the rest of the year. A time when people are extra nice to each other, and time for having fun! Let’s face it – what is there not to like?
However, when it’s all over, I am always ready to get back to normal and to get working on my plans for the year ahead. In fact I am usually chomping at the bit to get back working.
But there are sooo many people who are down and depressed once the decorations come down and dread going back to “normality”. It seems to me that these people perhaps need to make some changes in their lives. If “normality” is not something to look forward to, then I suggest that some different choices need to be taken. After all – we are all responsible for our own happiness and well-being. And we all, as a general rule, have choices.
I’m not suggesting that it’s an easy thing to do. But if work is getting you down, start making plans to change that. Whether that involves looking for a new job – or starting your own business. Or if you are in business already, and you don’t really look forward to getting back to work – then maybe you are running the wrong business.
I feel very lucky that I love what I do. But I have a very low boredom threshold and so I know I’d be unhappy if I wasn’t constantly evolving what I do and how I do it. And I do that because I can. Because it’s my business and I make all the choices. They’re not all good ones – I am only human after all! But I make them. And I also choose how to react to all of the consequences – good and bad. I love this freedom. But it’s a freedom that we all have. So embrace it. If you’re not happy – make some changes!
I’d love to hear whether the “normality” of your life is something you look forward to or not, and what changes you feel you could make to make your work / business / life better…
